Eating all the pancakes on Pancake Day
Bristol isn’t short of places to get pancakes from all-year round, but this being Pancake Day seemed like as good a day as any to sample as many pancakes as possible in just one day.
I started close to Bristol24/7 HQ at The Tube Diner in the Paintworks. The staff were more than pleasant, and the wait was about three minutes. It was a great start to the morning. Just as they plated it up I was presented with a gorgeous ray of sunshine. To start off my Pancake Day, I went with two pancakes, smothered in chocolate sauce and maple syrup, plus some ice cream (why not!).

Next on the list was Sundaes Gelato on Baldwin Street. Being the only one around, I was spoilt for places to sit and destroy this next pancake. Sticking to the sweet theme, I went with Nutella Cookies, the pancake being smothered in Nutella plus some Oreo cookies, and of course, more ice cream.
Venturing towards the centre, I headed to Quick Crepes. Ordering the chocolate sauce crepe, it was recommended I take a few extra napkins, thank goodness. This place is perfect for when you are on the move; it takes two minutes and is really easy to eat from. Plus, they do their pancakes a little crispier around the edges, which makes them even more delicious.
Next stop, Rocotillos. The walk up Park Street must have burned off at least a couple of those earlier pancakes. Being peak time, I chose to take away my pancakes to eat outside Bristol Museum. The chocolate chip pancakes are new to me – it was like eating a giant soft cookie, a perfect lunchtime snack. Going in, I was told there would be a 20-minute wait, but the service was so good it only took seven (I timed).
Last on the list was nearby Crepe Affaire. By now, I was already feeling full of pancakes and a little queasy. Nearly three hours after my first pancake in the Paintworks, I chose to sit and eat my Nutella and icing sugar pancake in the window, a prime spot for people watching. Eating slowly through my last pancake I felt I had completed an epic challenge. Until next year!
