Zara’s Chocolates settling into new larger shop

By Maleeka Adrien  Friday Aug 24, 2018

Larger premises mean more room for experimenting with chocolate for a much-loved Bristol shop.

After five years sharing premises with a florist close to the Tobacco Factory, Zara’s Chocolates now has premises of its own just a few hundred yards up the road at 200 North Street.

Zara Narracott and her small team continue to hone their craft and make their own unique creations, just now with more space for making delicious products as well as hosting workshops and tasting events.

Everything for sale in the shop has been made in the premises

Tempting treats range from truffles to cocoa beans

In the new shop, a much larger kitchen can be seen the other side of a pane of glass through which the chocolate magic happens.

Zara has several brand new delights awaiting in the very near future, including building a hot chocolate bar inside her shop.

“It’s something I’m really excited to introduce and bring in so people can actually sit and indulge and enjoy being in the shop,” Zara tells Bristol24/7 on a recent afternoon.

“We’ve had many people wanting to stay in the shop and have a hot drink but we didn’t have the room to offer that before. I’ve always wanted to have a little hot chocolate haven that people can enjoy.”

As well as creating a hub for hot chocolate, Zara is also striving to run more full-day workshops with larger classes and an increased variety of themes offered, as well as evening events and special collaborations with other producers

“It’s all really exciting,” Zara says. “We just want to be able to use the space more and actually bring people in more to enjoy chocolate and the world around it.”

Zara’s team have also been looking into different packaging options for their items to allow more local produce and less waste, including the option of refill jars for the new hot chocolate bar.

Building relationships with cocoa farmers, Zara has been able to produce her own chocolate from scratch and control even more the ingredients that go into her products.

In October, celebrating Chocolate Week 2018, Zara hopes to collaborate with various different chocolate makers, businesses and cafes around Bristol to create what she calls “an awesome Bristol-wide city chocolate celebration”.

Zara looks forward to her shop “becoming a hub where people can come in and learn, experience, and enjoy chocolate”.
