A new beginning for Tiffins
A popular Indian takeaway in Kingsdown has reopened after closing last year with a new team in the kitchen.
But fear not – a selection of curries, chutneys and Indian ice cream made by owner Jay Jethwa are now available to buy frozen at Tiffins on St Michael’s Hill.
Jay cooks her 100 per cent vegetarian and vegan curries – including cabbage with mixed peppers, potato with peanut and coconut, and saag panner – at the weekend, and during the week lets the team at Miller Green take over her stoves.
is needed now More than ever

Miller Green’s Leah Dehaan hard at work in the Tiffins kitchen
Formerly based in founder Sue Miller’s basement kitchen in nearby Cotham, Miller Green specialises in vegan food and delivers throughout Bristol to their subscription customers as well as being on Deliveroo.
For the first time, Miller Green has a shopfront and customers old and new can now collect their food cooked by Sue and her team from Tiffins.
Sue works full-time in the business with Annabel Hackney alongside several part-time staff including Leah Dehaan, who was busy prepping on a recent Thursday morning.
“There used to be four of us around a square table and we used to natter,” Sue says. “We are probably now a bit more efficient!
“For me, it has been lovely to meet the customers as I have been doing fewer deliveries recently.”

Jay Jethwa’s curries and chutneys can now be bought frozen from Tiffins
After 15 years, Jay closed Tiffins in October 2018 following the death of her husband Nick. The pair used to run the same building as a post office, with Jay looking at a number of possible options for its future before joining forces with Sue.
Jay’s food continues to be influenced by the flavours of Gujarat, and her regular customers have already welcomed her back with open arms.
“It’s great to be back cooking,” Jay says. “And it’s much more manageable this way. I’m really enjoying it.
“I’m really happy to be back, and it’s really quite heartwarming and humbling when people come back too but actually interested in us. That’s typically Bristol I think.”
