Award-winning Sri Lankan restaurant opening soon in Bristol

By Martin Booth  Wednesday Sep 19, 2018

An award-winning restaurant and bar specialising in Sri Lankan street food is opening not one but two new restaurants in Bristol.

While looking for a location for their third site after their original home in Cheltenham and second home in Oxford, The Coconut Tree team found units on Cheltenham Road and on the Clifton Triangle.

Not being able to choose just one, they will be opening both – with the Cheltenham Road restaurant in what was formerly the short-lived Edit due to open first on October 5, with 50 per cent off all food during the opening weekend for those booking online.

The Coconut Tree is opening its first Bristol restaurant on Cheltenham Road

The Coconut Tree publicity calls them “more than just a bar and restaurant. They are a family. Take a handful of Sri Lankan boys enjoying London living, watch them open a Cheltenham restaurant, a second in Oxford, and now Bristol!

“They were born making food an occasion. It’s always big. There is a saying back in Sri Lanka: Lay an extra place at the table – always have room for an unexpected guest, so they hope that The Coconut Tree reflects this kind of warmth.”

The 80-cover restaurant and bar will serve a menu of small- to medium-sized dishes; all of which can be shared in typical Sri Lankan fashion, with mix and matching encouraged.
