Beer and sausages – it must be Oktoberfest
Dig out your Lederhosen and plait those pigtails, Oktoberfest is set to land in Millennium Square this September.
The Bavarian beer festival, traditionally held in Munich, will also be in Bristol this year between September 1 and 4.
Expect massive mugs of beer served on long tables by men in leather breeches and buxom blondes with traditional Dirndl corseted dresses.
is needed now More than ever
“One thing the British and the German have in common is the joy of life with a nice beer, so Oktoberfest is a perfect place to meet,” said Carsten Raun, the festival’s director.
The festival will see a 1,500-capacity marquee erected with rows of shared tables underneath and a stage for a German band.
Bavarian Festbeer, a dark, golden lager with white foam, will be served straight from a 20,000-liter tank fresh from the brewery in Bavaria.
Traditional German beer will also be on offer, including schnitzel (deep-fried pork cutlet), prezel (twist-knot bread), Händel (grilled chicken) and Schweinebraten (roast pork).
Entry is free on Thursday and Sunday, and £5 on Friday and £6 on Saturday. For more information, visit www.bristol-oktoberfest.co.uk.
