Bomboloni cafe and restaurant opening soon
Eaten as a snack across Italy, bomboloni are filled doughnuts, fluffy pillows of fried pastry dough rolled in sugar and stuffed with a variety of fillings such as custard, cream and Nutella.
Bristol is soon to get its own bomboloni with the opening of the aptly named Bomboloni as early as next month on Gloucester Road.
It will be about much more than just doughnuts, however, with cakes, pastries and bread in the morning, with the only breakfast on offer a toast basket consisting of a white sourdough, a fruity nut bread made from the bomboloni dough and a wholegrain loaf, served with butter and jam.
is needed now More than ever
Lunch will be in the form of pizzetta, parmigiana, lots of fresh salads, bruschetta, risotto and more; and at dinner grilled meat, fish and veg served simply with green salads and a few sides, as well as a few pizzas and some interesting pasta dishes.

“I am really going to try and produce something along the lines of an Italian family kitchen,” said owner Andrew Griffin, formerly at Tart on Gloucester Road and Prego in Westbury Park.
“Our aim is to provide excellent value for money and great quality. We really want to encourage families in and will be offering a family deal between 5pm and 7pm.”
After 7pm, Andrew says things will become a little more restaurant-like but still promises a really relaxed and informal atmosphere.
“We just feel this is a quite simple formula,” Andrew added. “Of course the actual food we serve will be sourced well and seasonal and very tasty.”
Bomboloni hopes to open at 225 Gloucester Road, most recently Biblos on the Hill, in mid-May.
