Bomboloni to reopen as a cafe and deli

By Martin Booth  Tuesday May 18, 2021

A popular restaurant is relaunching with a new concept as indoor dining returns to Bristol.

Bombolini on Gloucester Road will reopen on May 21 as a cafe and deli, with the restaurant returning on the last weekend of each month on Friday and Saturday nights.

The new-look Bomboloni will be serving the likes of breakfast pastries, muffins, babka, cinnamon buns and grilled bomboloni for breakfast from 9am, with a selection of brunch dishes from mid-morning including baked eggs with tomatoes, peppers, spinach, ricotta and chilli; beetroot cured salmon with fennel and cucumber and toasted focaccia sandwiches.

There will always be daily pasta and pizza specials on the menu, afternoon teas, and the continuation of carpet picnics to take away which proved popular during lockdown.

Bomboloni was opened by in 2017 by Andrew Griffin, who died suddenly in 2019.

Sara, Andrew’s wife, kept the restaurant open with the help of Andrew’s daughter, Molly, in the kitchen and front of house manager, Karolina.

Sara said: “I trained as a pastry chef, and so did Molly. When Bomboloni originally opened, I ran the pastry section and that is still what I love to do.

“So we will be combining our passion for baking with the very best of what our customers love about Bomboloni to create a brand new menu for daytime service.”

Sara added: “This is the start of a whole new chapter for Bomboloni. We are moving forward positively, and we cannot wait to welcome back our customers and to show everyone the results of our hard work on the restaurant.”
