Boston Tea Party to start trial reopening at one Bristol cafe

By Martin Booth  Wednesday May 27, 2020

One Boston Tea Party in north Bristol will be back open from Thursday in order to trial a wider reopening of the chain’s cafes.

Founded in Bristol, BTP now has 23 cafes across the West Country and the Midlands, with the cafe on Gloucester Road among only two reopening as part of the trial.

Customers will be able to order and pick up food and coffee via the new ‘Contactless Coffee’ initiative supported by City to Sea.

BTP chief exec Sam Roberts said: “We’re ready to fire up the coffee machines and get serving Boss Breakfasts to our brilliant customers, but we know it is crucial to get all the safety steps right first.

“We’re launching this click and collect trial in one Bristol and one Midlands cafe and if the feedback is good we’ll roll it out.”

Roberts hopes that all of BTP’s cafes will be able to reopen in July, when they will continue not to serve drinks in single-use containers.

Roberts added: “We’ve seen the big guys renege on reusable cups, as if single use is the only safe option in a Covid-19 ‘new normal’.

“We wholeheartedly disagree. It’s not the safe choice, it’s the lazy choice…

“Now is not the time to put sustainability on the back burner, now is the time to dig deep and find solutions that work for people and for the planet.”
