BoxPark founder promises BoxHall in Bristol will be fiercely independent
The founder of one of London’s biggest food and drink success stories of recent years says that his latest concept coming soon to Bristol is not about interlopers from the capital riding roughshod over our city’s strong independent spirit.
The first BoxPark was built out of shipping containers in 2011 in preparation for the Olympics. Originally focused primarily on retail, BoxPark – which now has three locations in Shoreditch, Croydon and Wembley – is now known for its street food and events.
Specialising in food, beer and music, BoxHall is set to open in the O and M sheds on Welsh Back near Redcliffe Bascule Bridge, featuring a host of independent restaurants and street food traders as well as regular guest pop-ups.
is needed now More than ever
Wade told the Bristol24/7 Behind the Headlines podcast that BoxHall will be “a smaller, premium version of BoxPark”.
Listen to Wade talk more about BoxHall:
BoxHall will turn O and M sheds – not long ago earmarked to be house a slavery museum called Abolition Shed – into a 20,000 sq ft venue which will house up to ten food businesses.
Bristol City Council spent £1.4m buying the 137ft-long Ebenhaezer barge moored outside the disused warehouses in order for them to be refurbished.
Developers will be working with the council to build out the shell before Wade’s team begin the fit-out, employing the designers of restaurants Dishoom and Hawksmoor.
On a recent visit to Bristol, Wade met mayor Marvin Rees, who said that BoxHall “looks set to be an exciting, regenerated space that will create new jobs as we recover from the Covid-19 pandemic”.
“This can be a real boost for Bristol’s economy that showcases our thriving food and drink offer, and helps to make the harbourside fit for the future.”
