Breaking Bread comes to Bristol homes

By Lowie Trevena  Wednesday Feb 3, 2021

Breaking Bread, the collection of dining experiences on the Downs which ran through summer 2020, came to an end in November.

But the team behind the venture has created a new service to bring restaurant-quality meals to people throughout the city.

Breaking Bread At Home has been created by the Pony & Trap, Bianchis and Team Love.

A ready-meal service with dishes cooked by some of Bristol’s top restaurateurs, each delivery serves two and every meal bought funds a meal for a someone in the city facing food insecurity.

Chefs Josh Eggleton and Ben Harvey have devised a menu of winter dishes, which will be cooked using fresh seasonal ingredients, and will be prepped by the restaurant’s respective teams.

The first dishes will be a fish pie from Salt & Malt, smoked mozzarella and mushroom lasagne from Bianchis and a cottage pie from the Pony & Trap.

Orders will go live on Friday, February 5  and people will have until the following Wednesday to get their dish ready for collection on Friday, February 12. The meals can be collected weekly on Friday from Pasta Loco, Salt & Malt, Bianchis and Bristol Beer Factory.

Each order will not only support the currently closed businesses, but also fund food services in the city which are helping those in a vulnerable situation.

“We’re still all in a really difficult situation right now, but we can’t ignore the fact that food poverty and food vulnerability needs to be tackled,” says Josh.

“With funding becoming scarce, we came up with a way that Bristolians can all play a part in feeding the city, while also feeding themselves.

“This collaboration brings restaurant quality ready meals to the city, and every one will help us to make meals for those in need.”

Breaking Bread At Home will run weekly, with the physical dining experience on the Downs returning in the spring.
