Bristol brewery collaborates with Adidas to create new ‘Isambard’ trainers

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Aug 10, 2021

The original Bristol shoe by Adidas is making a return with a new name and accompanied by two special beers.

Named after Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the ‘Isambard’ is part of a three-way collaboration between Adidas, Size? and New Bristol Brewery based in St Paul’s.

Alongside Brunel, another of Bristol’s most famous sons is celebrated in the new shoe design: Alfred the gorilla, formerly of Bristol Zoo who now resides in taxidermised form in Bristol Museum.

One of the beers, Home-Grown Hero IPA, has a label which shows Alfred returning to his city – just like the trainer. The other beer is called Heavy Duty Beauty and is a double IPA coming in at a stonking seven per cent ABV.

The two designs of trainers and the two beers will be released together in the autumn.

“This is just the start of an amazing relationship with these guys, who spotted our passion for our city and the community we embrace from brewing great beer,” New Bristol Brewery wrote on their Instagram.

“It has been a pleasure to work with them, big thanks to @lukematthews_ and our very own and very talented designer @tommooredesign”
