Broadmead cafe challenges chain drinkers

By Theo Watt  Friday Aug 7, 2015

A Bristol coffee shop is offering offer generous discounts to Broadmead’s ‘chain drinkers’ in a bid to win customers over to a better cuppa.

Ape About Coffee on Merchant Street are selling their artisan blends at half price in exchange for a takeaway cup from one of the city’s major high street chains – such as the Starbucks just next door.

Ape’s owner Nick Ashton explained: “Too often we feel customers are missing out on a really special coffee experience and often paying more for what is an inferior drink.”

“This month it is our mission to convert some of those misguided taste buds,” he continued.

“We have faith that the people of Bristol would like to taste something special and support a local, independent business for a change.”

All cups received from the trade-in will be recycled to make a coffee convert tribute which will be exhibited within the PAPER Arts exhibition space.

Speaking about Ape’s latest venture PAPER Arts’ Blanca Munoz, joked: “I suspect they will not cease in their mission until everyone in Bristol is converted to speciality coffee.”

The #coffeeconvert challenge will run until August 15.
