British Dal Festival returns for 2020

By Lilly Subbotin  Tuesday Feb 11, 2020

After launching in Bristol in 2018, the British Dal Festival returns for a third year in 2020, running from Saturday, March 21 to Tuesday, March 31 to celebrate the magic of dal and pulses across the UK.

During the festival, the nationwide Dal Trail will see more than 300 food and drink businesses and retailers putting dal and other pulse dishes and ingredients centre stage, showcasing local flavours and traditions.

Festival chair Nick Saltmarsh hopes that 2020’s Dal Trail will make “a bigger splash than ever”, and Bristol is certainly aiming high.

As well as restaurants and cafes offering at least one dal or other pulse dish on their menu and retailers offering a pulse recipe and ingredients during the ten-day festival, St Nick’s Night Market will also be holding a special, dal-themed evening.

Street food, cooking demonstrations, skilled chefs, children’s activities and a dal themed market will all come together to celebrate the versatility of dal.

The British Dal Festival encourages healthy and mindful eating with simple and sustainable ingredients that you can make at home and businesses can still sign up to partake in the Dal Trail.

BBC broadcaster, cook, author and singer Cerys Matthews describes the festival as: “A timely celebration of the humble pulse: versatile, healthy, sustainable, cheap, delicious, and one of our best weapons in the fight against climate change.”
