Cafe-bar in south Bristol to permanently close

By Lowie Trevena  Monday Jul 20, 2020

A popular cafe-bar in south Bristol will permanently close after initially shutting because of the coronavirus lockdown.

Banco Lounge, located on Wells Road, is one of two locations being shut by the Loungers chain.

The company also run Grupo Lounge in Westbury-on-Trym, Porto Lounge in Fishponds, Tinto Lounge on Gloucester Road and the Lounge in Bedminster.

These locations, along with 175 other restaurants also run by the group, will all reopen by August 5.

The Loungers has said that it is with “great sadness” that they have made the “hugely difficult” decision to close Banco Lounge’s doors permanently.

The cafe-bar was one of the chain’s earliest sites, opening in 2006 in the former Lloyds bank at the bottom of Wells Road.

The company said that the Banco Lounge’s combination of small size and additional costs of doing business means that it doesn’t meet Loungers’ “returns criteria”.

The lease on the Lounge expires in March 2021 and will not be renewed.

“We’d like to thank everyone who has supported Banco Lounge over the years,” said the Loungers group.

The Loungers team added: “Banco was one of our earliest sites opening in 2006 and we have thoroughly enjoyed playing a part in your community over the last 14 years.

“We are gutted to be closing and hope to see you in other Lounges very soon.”
