Call-out for Bristol’s best dogs to star on beer cans

By Bristol24/7  Thursday Mar 17, 2022

An amalgamation of beer, brewing and pawsome-looking dogs is set to be celebrated at Lost and Grounded’sDog Day Afternoon’.

Hosted on Saturday, March 19, the day offers a chance for the dogs of Bristol to be featured on one of the brewery’s upcoming beer concoctions.

But the opportunity to star on the new Kölsch, 4.8% Cologne-style Ale is reserved for only those “supermodel dogs” – a title earned by performing well in selected ‘doggy contests’ at the taproom in Brislington.

Categories of said competitions this weekend include Best Trick, Best Boi, Goodest Girl, Shiniest Coat, Biggest Ears and Furriest Paws.

Inspired by “those hot, sleepy afternoons when dogs (and people) prefer to lay around and languish in the summer heat”, capturing the photos is local professional photographer Nicci Peet.

The new beer that hopeful dogs could feature on, out mid-April, is what the Lost and Grounded team describe as a “modern tribute to Kölsch”. They have used in-house lager techniques to showcase a German hop variety “with notes of passion fruit, orange and pear”.

‘Dog Day Afternoon’ is catered by Dog Town Hotdogs, the brainchild of an award-winning burger chef and craft beer bar and bottle shop, Beer Necessities – with a base at Wapping Wharf.

Entry costs £5 per dog which includes the contest and parade. All the entry fees, as well as £1 per pint bought on the day, will be donated to homeless animal charity Street Vet.
