City centre Starbucks closes suddenly
At the start of this year, one of Bristol’s most historic roads had two instantly recognisable food and drink businesses next door to one another.
But following the closure of Greggs in January, the Starbucks cafe in the neighbouring unit on Wine Street has now also suddenly closed.
Both Starbucks and Greggs previously occupied the Vintry Building overlooking Castle Park, a 1950s Art Deco office building that has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment.

The unexpected demise of their Wine Street cafe is just the latest Starbucks to close its doors in Bristol in recent years following stores on Park Street, The Arcade in Broadmead and Victoria Street overlooking Bristol Bridge.
The Starbucks in a former bookmakers on Wine Street was opened in 2014 by a businessman who had previously opened three Costa coffee shops in Bristol without the correct planning permission.
Stuart Montgomery was the Costa Coffee UK franchisee of the year in 2011 and 2012, but faced much local opposition after flouting planning laws to open cafes on Whiteladies Road, Gloucester Road and Westbury-on-Trym.
A Starbucks spokesperson told Bristol24/7: “We constantly review our store portfolio to ensure each of our stores contributes to a healthy business growth and can confirm that our store on Wine Street has closed.
We are proud of the team’s involvement in the local community and grateful to all of our customers in the area for their loyalty over the years, and let them know their nearest Starbucks store will be at Temple Meads or Horsefair.”
