Clifton deli named UK’s best small shop
A deli, caterer and cooking school has been named the UK’s best small shop at an awards ceremony in London.
Papadeli on Alma Road in Clifton was the winner in the Best Small Shops competition.
The awards aims to celebrate “not only the commitment and creativity of entrepreneurial independent retailers on the UK’s high Streets but also, the central role independent retailers play in building local communities”.

Papadeli founders and owners Simon and Catrin MacDonnell celebrate
Among a variety of shops from speciality cycle stores to lifestyle and gifts, Papadeli was selected from 25 finalists as the overall winner.
The shop was set up by Simon and Catrin MacDonnell nearly 18 years ago, and stocks a wide variety of foods from local producers and from across the UK and Europe.

Simon said: “The high street is struggling, with record number of shops closing daily, so we’re so delighted to win this and hope that it brings attention to the importance of local, independent shops and the part they play in the community.
