Pubs and Bars / Steampunk
The UK’s first steampunk bar is opening in Bristol this week
Inspired by Steampunk, a new bar in a former bank on St Stephen’s Street will be presented to patrons as the regular watering hole of the fictional Captain Sebastian Commodore, a traveller whose wild and thrilling adventures will be recounted by the bar staff.
There’s a different story told upon ordering each cocktail on the menu at The Clockwork Rose, and those with an eagle eye may spot familiar items from the tales located around them; everything from an accordion and a broken monocle to a mysterious skull.

is needed now More than ever
The main mind behind the cocktail bar is Captain Commodore’s creator Christopher Stutt, who is a long-time fan of the Steampunk aesthetic.
He cites Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days and the cinematic serials of the 1930s as influences on the subtly tongue-in-cheek stories that he has come up with, and he wants the world of The Clockwork Rose to have a more expansive scope than the Victorian setting often associated with Steampunk.
The stories are drawn from many different times in history, ranging from the 1600s through to near present day, and while most follow a piratey Indiana Jones-style narrative, there are also those which delve into the deeper mythology of Captain Commodore’s past.
When the bar opens on Friday, you can expect to hear about battles with sky krakens, drunken bets and velociraptors.

The first cocktail menu has been written entirely by Chris but he’s encouraging the bartenders to come up with their own for the next.
It isn’t just the stories that have been created from scratch either. Those who feel particularly adventurous might venture off of the menu to sample the espresso bean vodka, apple pie bourbon or beetroot gin.
