First look at new restaurant inside Bristol Beacon

By Mia Vines Booth  Wednesday Jan 3, 2024

The opening date of the restaurant that will house diners beneath Bristol Beacon’s Byzantine arches has been announced.

Overseen by caterers, Graysons, based in Kent, the Colonnade restaurant will open on Friday, serving a seasonal menu “designed to take diners through the day”, with European small plates and locally sourced ingredients.

Headed by chef Joshua Bebbington – whose previous endeavours include River Cottage and Michelin-star L’Escargot – the menu promises to be “consciously sustainable, with plentiful plant-based and low carbon choices and a colourful seasonal children’s menu”.

Local beers and spirits alongside modern cocktails, “in-house shrubs and ferments”, and natural and classic wines will be on offer in the extensive drinks menu.

The Colonnade will open in the newly restored concert entrance

The Colonnade – which translates to a row of equally positioned columns – is the latest edition to the newly refurbished Bristol Beacon, which reopened its doors to the public at the end of November after a controversial £132m revamp.

The restaurant sits within the venue’s historic Byzantine walls, which have been restored during the building’s reconstruction, along with original chandeliers reclaimed from the 1950s auditorium.

The Colonnade will join two new bars in the venue, the Weston Stage, in the building’s cellar, and Simons’ Bar, on the mezzanine above the restaurant.

European small plates will be on offer with an extensive non-meat selection

Goldings, a new member bar, has also opened via the venue’s Trenchard Street entrance, serving guests pastries and curated drinks from a snug.

Bristol Loaf will continue to serve visitors in the cafe in the main foyer, and a number of smaller bars will continue to serve concert-goers.

The Colonnade will open on Friday, with a ten per cent discount for ticket holders until the end of January.
