Gareth Bale behind plans for new crazy golf-themed bar in Bristol

By Martin Booth  Friday Mar 11, 2022

Gareth Bale is known as much for his love of playing golf as he is for playing football these days.

Currently at Real Madrid, the Wales captain is likely to leave the Spanish capital this summer and is already making plans for his career after football.

He is the co-owner of Par 59 in Cardiff, a bar which also has two crazy golf courses within it and which is hoping to open its second venue in Bristol.

The Par 59 website says that the collaboration between Bale’s Elevens Group and Cardiff’s The Depot “brings the competitive world of golf to Cardiff city centre”.

“Inspired by elite performance, our underground venue is custom designed to bring people together.

“It’s home to a premium bar, independent kitchen, space for laid-back, casual dining, and two custom-designed mini-golf courses boasting 9 holes each.

“Located in the heart of St Mary Street, Cardiff, Par 59 is the perfect place to socialise, relax, and feed your competitive edge.”

Par 59 hopes to open their Bristol bar in the Harbourside next to Lane 7, whose original plans included crazy golf alongside ten-pin bowling.

A licence application for Unit 3B on Millennium Promenade reveals that Bale and his fellow directors hope to open Bristol’s Par 59 until as late as 1.30am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, with the venue primarily
aimed at over-18s.

It comes as work continues to transform the former Triathlon Shop and Costa the other side of Lane 7 into a giant BrewDog bar, with indoor golf already available at InPlay Golf on nearby Cathedral Walk.
