Ice cream parlour blames bill rises and alcohol culture for closure
The owner of an ice cream parlour has blamed an “unaffordable” increase in electricity bills and the changing demographics of the area for its closure.
Sprinkles Gelato has now closed permanently after more than five years on Millennium Promenade.
In that time within the Harbourside, units including a triathlon shop and party shop have been turned into large bars including Brewdog, Lane 7 and Par 59.
is needed now More than ever
“Rent increased but the area is changing; there is a lot of bars and there is not really a mix of tenants,” Sprinkles franchisee Abdur Afzal told Bristol24/7.
“Not much for families in the area which is our main target customer. Sadly we have had to make the decision to exit.”

Afzal added: “Our electric bills have almost tripled which is unaffordable.
“This combined with increasing drinking establishments in the local area means that there is not much of a mixed use scheme as most in some way, shape or form focus on alcohol.
“Those who do not are left with very few target consumers.”
