‘The independent restaurants in Bristol are always thrilling’
Acclaimed food critic Jay Rayner has praised Bristol’s restaurant scene as the best in the UK outside London.
Speaking to The Guild of Fine Food, he said that the restaurants are an embodiment of the city’s fiercely independent culture.
Rayner said: “I travel the UK all the time for various bits of my so-called working life. The one city that stands out – outside of London it has to be said – which is really throwing forward interesting things is Bristol.
is needed now More than ever
“The independent restaurants in Bristol are always thrilling and I have a continually growing list of places that I have to go back and look at.
“I think it’s part of the independent culture that’s embedded in Bristol itself. Not just about food but the whole city.
“They’re willing to support those small-scale, independent restaurants with many only 20 or 30 seats, and they’re using them throughout the week, not just on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.
“That’s the way to make a thriving restaurant sector.”
