It’s been sweet, but times are changing for cake shop

By Robin Connolly  Friday Sep 10, 2021

After four sweet years of celebratory and wholesale baking, Chandos Road’s resident cakery is changing hands.

Bosh Kitchen, East Street’s provider of cakes and other bespoke catering options, will be taking over all Pearly King Cake’s baking responsibilities at their Bedminster kitchen “very soon”, as the Redland business closes its doors.

In an Instagram post at the beginning of September, Leanne Purton, the previous owner of Pearly King explained how “it’s time for me to move on, and for the biz to get a blast of fresh air”

Leanne will be leaving the business in what she describes as “a brilliant pair of hands”, as Bosh Kitchen’s owner, Juliet Clarke, has been in the catering business for almost a decade.

Talking about the new venture, Juliet said: “I’m so excited to have the opportunity to grow Bosh Kitchen. Leanne’s cakes have always been great and I’m looking forward to expanding my range and customer base and getting more amazing cake to more of Bristol.”

At Bosh, Juliet also runs monthly supper clubs, which are influenced by flavours and tastes from her travels across the globe.

Pearly King Cakes was originally opened in 2017 after Leanne made her original move from Fishponds Trading Estate.

Her plan is now to spend a little more time in her garden and with her cat – who she promises to keep her former customers up to date with on her personal Instagram account.
