Jammie Dodger beer available for one night only in Bristol

By Ellie Pipe  Thursday May 4, 2017

A Bristol brewing company has put a brand new twist on the old English tradition of a biscuit and a brew with the invention of a Jammie Dodger flavoured beer.

With a dollop of jam, a scattering of strawberries and a hint of vodka, the unlikely ale experiment was the brainchild of Wiper and True, who admit it was all just for a bit of fun to help get their creative juices flowing, so to speak.

Sweet-toothed beer lovers will have only one chance to try the unique tipple, at a launch bash in The Old Butcher’s on Thursday night, where a series of special pilot brews can also be sampled by customers for the very first time.

“It was just one of those things, we thought it was pretty cool,” said Martin Saunders, Wiper and True’s commercial director.

“We are always looking for inspiration around new flavours so we thought ‘let’s develop some new beers around biscuits’, this is the first brew of its kind and it was brewed for the Edinburgh Craft Beer Festival, but we thought we would do a one-off launch in The Old Butcher’s.

“The plan is not to do more, the whole idea is just to do something more interesting.”

New smaller fermenter vessels have enabled the Bristol-based brewing company to embark on a series of experimental brews and concepts before they go to full scale release and the result is a series of pilot beers – all of which will be available for the first time on Thursday night.

The Wiper and True team will be in residence at the bar to give a guided tasting of three new and limited brews and will be asking thirsty visitors for their opinions on the experimental kegs.

Michael Wiper said: “It’s made us very happy that we’re now able to offer the opportunity for those who enjoy our beer at The Old Butcher’s to try the first incarnations of our most recent experimentations and be a part of the story of these beers.

“We’ve been experimenting with the parameters of different yeast strains and pioneering new British hop varieties.”

Drinkers will be provided with tasting cards to give their feedback on each brew.

The recently-opened Old Butcher’s is a bar collaboration between The Old Bookshop and Wiper and True and houses the most Wiper and True draught lines served anywhere.
