Kabuto becomes first noodle brand in UK to become a B Corp

By Mia Vines Booth  Wednesday Sep 21, 2022

In another first for Bristol’s B Corp journey, Kabuto Noodles have become the first instant noodle brand to be awarded the highly valued certification.

The B Corp certification is a global recognition that a brand has met the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

Kabuto joins over 20 other Bristol businesses with the certification, and follows meat brand Jolly Hog’s announcement of their B Corp accreditation earlier in September.

Bristol is the second largest hub for B Corp companies in the UK, and joins over 950 companies nationally, including well-known brands such as The Guardian, innocent, Patagonia and The Body Shop.

The company’s founder Crispin Busk, who began his career with Bristol-based company Pieminister, called the accreditation “an incredible achievement”.

The team of seven is based in Bristol and has sold over 23 million pots to date.

Busk says: “As a family-run business it is important to us to leave a legacy which means our products had as little impact on the planet as possible.”

“We’ve always aimed to be leaders in the competitive world of instant noodles, both in taste as well as environmentally, and now we’ve proved quality instant noodles needn’t cost the earth.”

To achieve the B Corp status, Kabuto created jobs that incorporate social and environmental issues that are regularly reviewed, ensure its workers are paid above minimum wage, and is the first instant noodle brand to have a 100 per cent recyclable product and subsequent offset of its carbon emissions.

The company also recently transferred to an entirely vegetarian product with, as well as a non High in Fat, Salt and Sugar (HFSS) ingredient list.

Recently, even the popular TV chef and author Kwoklyn Wan, worked with the Kabuto team to create a series of recipes with the brand’s products, turning them into wholesome home-cooked style meals.
