Little French owners to open second restaurant
The site of a former greasy spoon is set to be transformed into a new restaurant from one of Bristol’s most acclaimed chefs.
1 York Place promises to be a “cosy 46-seater neighbourhood restaurant showcasing the best in European produce and wine and a few from further afield”.
It is being opened by the husband and wife team of Freddy and Nessa Bird, also behind Little French and Little Shop & Pantry in Westbury Park.
is needed now More than ever
Born and bred in Bristol and a familiar face on the small screen, Freddy began his career at Michelin-starred restaurants in London before becoming head chef at the Lido when it first opened.
Little French opened in 2019 and Little Shop in 2021, with an aborted Little French pop-up at Bristol Old Vic in 2021; and the pair also behind Buxton & Bird pies and Menendez & Bird olive oil.

1 York Place in Clifton, almost opposite the Lansdown pub, was most recently Rosemarino for 13 years and before that the famous York Cafe.
Writing on Instagram, Freddy and Nessa said: “We have literally been chomping at the bit to share that we are opening another restaurant here in Bristol,” wrote Freddy and Nessa on Instagram.
.
“This will be our third venture since opening littlefrench back in 2019, and Littleshop in 2021, we are now heading to the outskirts of Clifton Village to York Place to open another restaurant.
“1 York Place – both our name and our address – will be a 46-cover restaurant showcasing the best European produce and wine (and a few from further afield).”
The Birds are aiming to open the new restaurant in December.
They added: “So many elements of opening a new restaurant are out of our control but we are pushing hard to get things done and in place.
“We are still cleaning, sanding, painting, organising & recruiting staff but please do drop in and say hello if you’re passing through – or looking for a job.”
