Long-running social club set to close
An emergency meeting has been called to confirm the planned closure of a social club in south Bristol.
In a statement, the committee for Broad Plain House Social Club on Broadbury Road in Knowle West said a number of factors have led to the decision.
It said: “Due to the cost of living, reduced membership numbers and reduced support for the club, the Committee has taken the extremely difficult decision to propose that we wind down the business and permanently close the club”.
is needed now More than ever
The meeting for Broad Plain’s members is set to take place on April 11, with the committee giving August 27 as the proposed closing date for the club.

In 2021, plans were approved to demolish an unused part of Broad Plain House, to make way for 47 new “affordable” homes.
But the social club part was set to be unaffected by the development, which will also see a multi-use games area and strip of green space built on.
It is unclear how the closure of the club could affect housing association Curo’s plans, which were approved despite receiving 150 objections.
Broad Plain, which first opened in 1940, is one of four social clubs in Knowle West – the others being Christ the King, Eagle House and the Novers.
