‘We love to play games and we want to share our passion’
It’s all about having fun in RePlay on Cheltenham Road, which is a “gaming bar” rather than a board game cafe according to its co-owner.
Upstairs there are shelves full of familiar games such as Jenga, Articulate and Uno. These are all second hand or upcycled, with customers also encouraged to bring their own to play.
It’s currently free to play, with prices soon to rise to £5 per table.

Downstairs, there are more active games: table tennis, Twister, and a game of darts using a Velcro board and balls. There are also beanbags and sofas down here giving it the feel of a bachelor’s’ crash pad.

Co-owner Máté Forgács (pictured top), originally from Hungary, has opened RePlay with Melinda Révai in a corner building that used to be Italian restaurant Ciao.
With the help of friends, Máté – who is also a Deliveroo motorcyclist – spent three months working on the space, painting and building all the furniture himself.
RePlay has a full alcohol license and a food menu currently comprising snacks such as chips, onion rings and nachos, with plans afoot for a larger vegetarian and vegan menu.

“We’re more like a gaming bar than a board game cafe,” says Máté. “We want to focus on interaction and communication, with all of the games here having easy rules and fun to play.
