Making it easier to find hospitality jobs in Bristol

By Martin Booth  Monday Nov 8, 2021

From jobs in established venues to jobs in those that have yet to open (hello, The Raven!), a new online bulletin board makes finding hospitality roles in Bristol as easy as possible.

Bristol Hospitality Roles is a new initiative from Laurence Pocock, the manager at Full Court Press on Broad Street, who came up with the idea after seeing the standard of applicants for a recent barista job at the cafe.

Currently just an Instagram account, Laurence hopes to grow the service but keep it free and specifically focused on jobs in cafes, pubs, bars and restaurants in Bristol.

Laurence himself has first-hand experience of looking for hospitality roles, having been a sound engineer at the Thekla before landing a job as a barista at Full Court Press.

The bulletin board is specifically localised to Bristol and requires the employer looking to fill a job to email Laurence a few basic details.

“The aim is to keep it well maintained and to keep it fresh,” Laurence tells Bristol24/7 during a break from helping to weigh beans at Full Court Press’ roastery, just a couple of doors down from their cafe.

“It’s to provide accessibility. To open up roles to applicants looking for work.”

Jobs currently being advertised on Bristol Hospitality Roles include general manager at The Raven, a soon-to-open speakeasy cocktail bar on St Stephen’s Street; a chef de partie at Souk Kitchen in Clifton; and a kitchen porter at the Garden of Easton on St Mark’s Road.

Laurence added: “It can be a shit world out there for people looking for a £9 an hour job. A hospitality role for most is the difference between having quality of life or not.

“Bristol Hospitality Roles is for people looking for work, to make the entire process easier. It’s about trying to help people in what can be an awful employment world.”
