Much-loved diner closes after almost 30 years

By Martin Booth  Friday Feb 7, 2020

There are not many Bristol food and drink businesses that could be called institutions, but this was definitely one.

After 26 years, however, Rocotillos is no more, bringing its time on the Clifton Triangle and its newer restaurant on Gloucester Road to a close.

Rocotillos was an American-style diner established in 1993 that found fame from being one of the most popular hangouts in Chanel 4 drama Skins.

“I’d like to thank you all for the amazing memories and your support and custom over the years,” said a statement from Rocotillos owner, Craig Collins.

“I’m sorry to disappoint you and your families. I know Rocotillos has been a place for special treats, new relationships, pre interview coffees, exam result milkshakes, post night out ‘get togethers’, the odd televised sporting event, big birthday celebrations along and many other fantastic memories and occasions.

“I hope you’ll be okay without our real & huge milkshakes, pancake stacks and original burgers.. I’m sure you’ll be fine and discover new great places.

“Without you, our suppliers and of course all the amazing staff (you know who you are) over the years none of the good times would have been possible.

“I’m so sorry it can’t continue. Sadly…..’that’s all folks!’ Thank you Bristol!”
