New bar to use former fountains in centre
They have been out of action since the Metrobus works started, and now the fountains in the centre that were once infamously likened to “a load of dead men peeing” are getting an unexpected new lease of life.
A bar due to be built on top of the fountains nearest the Cascade Steps will transform the water feature into a unique way to serve beer.
The aim of the new bar’s owners is to invite Bristol breweries to each take over one fountain, which will offer a regularly changing selection of that brewery’s beers to craft ale connoisseurs.
is needed now More than ever
The bar, called Fool’s Gold, has been given a temporary license by the city council to operate as a pop-up during the summer but hopes to be able to become a permanent fixture if the novel idea proves successful.
Part of the bar’s unique selling point will be repurposing the current technology that powers the fountains, with a maximum of 18 different ales, stouts and sours able to be served at the same time.
Fool’s Gold co-founder Elyse Fletcher told Bristol24/7: “It’s fitting that we are announcing this at Easter time because we like to compare ourselves to Jesus. He turned water into wine, but instead of wine we will be turning water into beer.”
