New cafe opened by experienced owners

By Martin Booth  Thursday Jul 22, 2021

Double Puc. It’s not Cockney rhyming slang or part of a tongue twister.

Instead, it’s a new cafe in Bristol that has been opened by a two-man team who were forced to sell their original cafe business due to being hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.

Double Puc is located on the ground floor of the 13-storey Eye tower in Temple Quay, in premises which until recently was Friska.

Friska co-founders Griff Holland and Ed Brown may have now sold their business – which will continue under new owners with its original name in other locations – but they have retained this site for their new venture.

The magnets under the counter remain from the old days: everything from Keep Cup to California. As do the Polaroid-style photos of staff, including Holland and Brown.

The yellow and black colour scheme of Friska, however, has been replaced by a bold pink which can be seen on the coffee machine, light fittings, and outdoor tables and chairs.

Pink is also on a menu which ranges from a breakfast items including bacon and sausage buns, yogurt and granola bowl, and toasted banana bread.

For lunch, there are hot sandwiches and salad bowls, and as well as tea and coffee to drink there is a selection of different milkshakes, smoothies and iced coffee.
