New cheese shop coming to North Street
The team behind London’s Borough Cheese Company are bringing their wares to Bristol.
North Street Cheese Company will open next week, selling a range of continental and local cheeses, plus charcuterie and other store-cupboard items.
Following his experience running market stalls in the capital, owner Dominic Coyte, from Devon, decided to make the move to Bristol as he has fond memories on his time here at university.
is needed now More than ever
With its already impressive set of independent shops including Hugo’s, Mark’s Bread, Rare Butchers and Corks, the team felt that North Street was the ideal spot for a cheese shop.

The shop will be managed by Kim Trethowan, who also comes from a cheesey background. Local cheese connoisseurs will know the name Trethowan from their award-winning pitchfork cheddar and gorwydd caerphilly, both of which are made in Puxton and will be sold in North Street Cheese.
Kim said: “We’ll be selling a selection of continental cheeses; comte and morbier from France, Dutch gouda, as well as more local cheeses such as pitchfork cheddar.
We’ll also have the British crumblies, Cheshires and Lancashires as well as soft cheeses – soft goats and sheep. We want to support a lot of small cheese makers. Even the continental cheeses come from very small producers. Dominic is passionate about supporting small businesses.”
But cheese isn’t the only item on the menu. “We’re also selling charcuterie, Italian Parma ham, pancetta and salami from small butchers in Italy.
“Local cider vinegar too. Cheese does the same thing to support your gut bacteria as kefir, kimchi and sauerkraut so we are stocking those from Bath Culture House. So you’ll be able to buy a few store cupboard ingredients as well as cheese!”
North Street Cheese will be opening for a soft launch on August 25 , 26 and 27. From September 5, they will be open 6 days a week, Tuesday to Sunday.
