New cocktail bar opening soon on Cotham Hill

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Nov 27, 2018

A new cocktail bar from the team behind one of Bath’s most popular late-night establishments is opening in December on Cotham Hill.

Crying Wolf promises “to offer the warmest, friendly service to you all, with the same relentlessly high standards as The Dark Horse“, its sister bar on Kingsmead Square in Bath.

It is set to open on 37 Cotham Hill next door to Pasta Loco in what was previously an Indian restaurant. The 75-seat bar will be set over two storeys, each promising its own unique design, atmosphere and music playlist, plus table service.

Crying Wolf will be the sister bar to the Dark Horse in Bath

Bristol-based owner Louis Lewis-Smith called the opening of Crying Wolf “a homecoming gig… the culmination of everything I’ve learned on this journey so far”.

Crying Wolf’s playlists will be professionally mixed and mastered by Stew Jackson (Massive Attack, Tom Waits) and played through a Klipsch sound system.

Emily Watkins is putting together the bar food menu, lighting is handmade by Jacknife Studios, workwear is by Paintworks-based design house Mishi May, a downstairs bar has been built from a single naturally-felled oak by carpenter Luke Saxton, and a list of cocktails will be made with fresh locally sourced fare overseen by Anastasia Miller and Nick Liljegren-Strangeway.

Louis wrote: “This has been a huge joy to bring to life, with the most brilliant, hardworking team of tradesmen putting in monumental effort to get us there in time. My gratitude to them is endless. I hope to see you all here soon to enjoy this very special place.”
