New deli to sell food for al fresco dining

By Betty Woolerton  Friday Mar 25, 2022

A brand new deli paying homage to local, quality food is opening its doors to south Bristol.

Owners Ellie and Matt Lean have run the Park Bakery, a much-loved baked goods shop by Victoria Park, since 2013. Now, a stone’s throw from their bakery, the couple are branching out with a new venture.

In what used to be Select Security Solutions Ltd, an alarms company, Ellie and Matt are gearing up for the imminent opening of Park Deli.

The Lean’s, who live nearby to their shops, describe the bakery as “food for now” and soon-to-open deli as “food for later”.

The shop on St John’s Lane is set to have a strong focus on artisan, local food made by small producers.

It will sell wines, Bristol-made gins, cheese, preserves, plant-based milks and more – poised for picnics in Victoria Park which the site overlooks. The pair also plan to create recipe meal boxes made up of pre-measured ingredients called Prepped.

Ellie has a background in marketing and Matt a trained chef. The duo met in Australia before moving to Bristol and opening Park Bakery in 2013.

It is their aim to provide much-needed amenities to an “underserved” part of Bristol where there is plenty of housing but few shops.

The Park Deli opens on Wednesday, March 30.
