New Indian restaurant to open on Clare Street

By Martin Booth  Thursday Oct 18, 2018

The former executive chef and operations manager of Za Za Bazaar is opening his own restaurant within a historic building on Clare Street.

Vinay Reddy will be opening Dhamaka in late November in what was originally the County Fire Office.

The building on the corner of Clare Street and St Stephen’s Avenue was most recently a Subway. Built in 1889, it has an unusual arcaded gallery in the attic.

Dhamaka promises to be an “easy-going Indian”, with a menu ranging from traditional curries to Indian-inspired tacos.

Joining Vinay in the kitchen is Jyotirmoy Patra, who since moving to the UK he has worked for Atul Kochhar in the Michelin-starred Benares in Mayfair.

Vinay said: “I have spent many years in the restaurant trade and it feels great to finally be opening my own.

“Dhamaka will be different to any Indian restaurant in Bristol and we are all very excited to open our doors at the end of November.

“Dhamaka will make you feel at home having one of our delicious one-plate curries at lunchtime or a three-course celebratory evening meal and cocktails.”
