New Michelin Bib Gourmands for Bristol pub and restaurants

By Martin Booth  Wednesday Mar 22, 2023

A pub in north Bristol has received the accolade just one removed from a Michelin star.

The Blaise Inn in Henbury has joined two Bristol restaurants to be awarded a Bib Gourmand, named after Bibendum, otherwise known as the Michelin Man.

Only 20 new Bib Gourmands have been awarded by Michelin this year across the UK and Ireland, with three of them in Bristol.

“Not quite a star, but most definitely not a consolation prize, the Bib Gourmand is a just-as-esteemed rating that recognises friendly establishments that serve good food at moderate prices,” says the Michelin Guide.

New Michelin stars will be announced at a ceremony on Monday. Currently, two Bristol restaurants hold Michelin stars: Bulrush in Cotham and Paco Tapas in Redcliffe.

The Blaise Inn has been recognised “for its well-priced, traditional dishes with the occasional modern twist”.

COR on North Street in Southville and Marmo on Baldwin Street in the city centre have also been awarded Bib Gourmands.

COR – named as Bristol24/7’s best new restaurant of 2022 – is described by Michelin as a “buzzy neighbourhood restaurant” with “vibrant small plates”.

Co-owners Karen and Mark Chapman have recently become parents for the first time, welcoming their son Lucas into the world on March 15.

Michelin call Marmo an “appealing osteria-cum-wine bar” which serves “rustic, satisfying, Italian-inspired dishes”.

Like COR, Marmo is co-owned by a couple, Lily and Cosmo Sterck, who opened Marmo in the former Bar Buvette in 2019, aiming to create a restaurant and wine bar “serving a concise menu, guided by seasonal and locally sourced ingredients”.
