New restaurant and event space to replace Brasserie Blanc in Quakers Friars
London, Paris, New York, Bristol. A restaurant group with businesses across the world are opening their first site in Bristol within one of the city’s most historic buildings.
D&D London will be moving into the Friary Building, a former Quaker meeting hall within what is now Quakers Friars. The Grade I listed building was built between 1747 and 1749 and in a previous incarnation was Bristol’s register office.
The Friary Building will be operating as Brasserie Blanc, one of the most established businesses in Cabot Circus, until September 1.

A spokesperson for the company said: “After ten years of positive trading in Bristol we have made the decision to close the site as a result of an attractive offer from our landlords at Cabot Circus.
“The decision was not taken lightly, and we plan on using the funds to reinvest in future openings. We have recently opened two new White Brasserie Company pubs, in Horsham and Highcliffe, both of which are trading beyond our expectations and we look forward to announcing further expansion plans in the coming year.
“Our main priority is the wellbeing of our staff, all of whom are being offered the opportunity to relocate to one of our other Brasserie Blanc sites, or our partner White Brasserie Company pubs.
“We would like to thank all our wonderful guests for their patronage and loyalty during our time in Bristol.”
Bristol24/7 understands the as-yet unnamed new restaurant will open in early 2020.
Brasserie Blanc has 18 locations across the UK
D&D London own restaurants, bars and hotels based principally in London. Their restaurants in London include Angler, which currently holds a Michelin Star; with other restaurants such as Alcazar in Paris, Angelica in Leeds, 20 Stories in Manchester and Guastavino’s in New York.
The group promises a new 13,000 sq ft restaurant and events venue in the Friary Building which will include a restaurant, bars, private dining and a large outdoor terrace.
D&D London chairman and CEO, Des Gunewardena, said: “Our Cabot Circus venture in Bristol reflects our continuing commitment to expansion in the UK outside of London.
