New sandwich shop opens on North Street
If there is one sandwich in Bristol worth fighting your way through a small army of Christmas trees for, it’s the hot porchetta and salsa verde creation from Dio’s Deli.
The newly opened deli and sandwich shop on North Street comes from the team behind Hugo’s Greengrocers next door, which explains the familiarity of the friendly faces behind the counter.
Dio’s is named after Hugo’s owner Hugo Sapsed’s one-year-old son, Adamandios.
is needed now More than ever
Inside, dark green tiles line the walls of the small cafe with a line of seats along one side on which to perch while enjoying a sandwich or soup.
As well as regularly changing hot specials from the blackboard, doorstop-style sandwiches are available from the fridge.
Flavours include roast beef with horseradish cream; pickled walnut and watercress; and marinated tempeh, pickled carrot, mint and coriander.

Yes, that is banoffee pie cereal for sale

Dio’s has got you covered for breakfast as well as lunch
Just below is a shelf piled high with brownies, Basque cheesecake and lemon meringue pie.
Whilst there is a good selection of vegetarian and vegan options in the fridge, the display on the counter is much more carnivorous. Logs of salami, smoked coppa and salsiccia can be sliced for you to take home.

A range of crisps are also on offer to accompany your sandwich.
While two hungry customers wait for their porchetta parcels to be delivered, oat lattes are ordered by passers-by and upbeat music soundtracks the shop.
Peeling back the packaging to reveal the sandwich is like opening a present on Christmas Day. If Santa would only leave a few of these under the tree it would be a very merry Christmas indeed.

This is what sandwich dreams are made of.
