New speciality coffee shop opens
The sensor above the door at Sweven was ding donging merrily from on high on Sunday morning as a steady stream of customers walked in and out of this new North Street cafe during its first weekend of opening.
In a corner unit that was most recently the original home of Zero Green (that has only moved a few hundred yards up the road), Sweven has brought speciality coffee to this corner of BS3.

There are two filter options and two espresso options, with roasters set to change regularly and tasting notes always provided both written down and from the hugely knowledgeable husband and wife co-owners.
Sweven has been opened by Aga and Jimmy Dimitrov, both following their dream to create their perfect coffee shop together.

On the corner of North Street and Merrywood Road, Sweven occupies what was most recently Zero Green and before that an estate agent
Jimmy has worked in coffee for a decade, spending the last five years at Clifton Coffee and competing at both national and international levels; while Aga is a professional barista trainer who also makes all the cakes sold here.
The current favourite coffee is an Ethiopian filter from Black & White Coffee of North Carolina in the USA, the first time coffee from this roaster has been for sale in Bristol.
Six styles of coffee are available, divided up into black (espresso, £2.50; long black, £2.80; or filter, £3.20) and white (flat white, £3; cappuccino, £3; or latte, £3.20); with a speciality tea costing £3.
Aga’s cakes – including a vivid green raw lemon and lime cake (£4.25) – share space on one side of the long counter with pastries from The Angel Bakery in Abergavenny.
Unlike the cakes, Sweven (which is an old English word for a dream or vision) is a minimal space, with whitewashed walls and the occasional splash of green from a pot plant or hanging basket.
Half a dozen metal and wooden stools take up the front window, with seating for some 20 customers on smaller stools and benches, every single guest able to enjoy some of the best speciality coffee in Bristol.
