New wine shop and bar opening on Gloucester Road

By Martin Booth  Sunday Jan 26, 2020

A wine shop by day and a bar and restaurant by night is set to open soon on Gloucester Road.

Cave promises to be a “new neighbourhood bottle shop, wine bar and general good things store”.

Due to open in early March, Cave will focus on wine while also stocking a range of beers and ciders, as well as the likes of cheese, charcuterie and coffee from local producers; becoming a bar and restaurant by night

“The concept for Cave has been inspired by a love of dual purpose spaces and an interactive experience,” owner Martin Hagen told Bristol24/7.

“The focus will shift throughout the day, being more about the shop in the day time and becoming more focussed on the bar/restaurant in the evening but the two spaces will coexist harmoniously throughout.”

Hagen, who grew up in Bristol, has worked across the hospitality industry including working in the wine trade in France as well as restaurant and gastro pub management in London and the South West.

He recently spent six months traveling through more than a dozen countries visiting vineyards, meeting producers, visiting local restaurants and searching out local delicacies, with Cave hoping to become a place which takes the best parts of European wine bars.

He said: “I love all things food and drink but wine has always been my particular passion and I had always hoped to create a business that focused around it.”
