‘People everywhere have pipe dreams of one day owning their own restaurant’
Bristol24/7 hears from foodie experts from across the city on why it is so important to inspire the next generation of chefs. Next in the series is Imogen Waite, owner of hospitality group Season + Taste, which includes Bravas, Bakers & Co and Cargo Cantina.
“Hospitality can be an incredibly rewarding career, you never stop learning and the buzz of working a busy service can be addictive,” says Imogen.
“The most important characteristics we look for in new chefs is passion and enthusiasm, if someone comes to us and they are excited about food and eager to get involved, there is no holding them back- we’ve had people progress from washing up to all levels of the kitchen.
is needed now More than ever
“We are really keen to get more young people involved in our business and I think hospitality and entrepreneurship are two subjects’ careers teachers don’t talk enough about. People everywhere have pipe dreams of one day owning their own restaurant but few young people realise that getting involved in hospitality at a young age is one of the best ways to make this happen.
“I started working in restaurant kitchens at 19 and did my NVQ at City of Bristol College. Now I am the owner of growing hospitality group of Bravas, Bakers & Co and Cargo Cantina.”
Imogen is one of the industry experts lending her support to Bristol24/7‘s foodie programme, set to inspire the next generation of chefs.
She joins Sam Sohn-Rethel, co-owner of Bellita, Elliott Lidstone, head chef and co-owner of BOX-E, and award-winning food educator Barny Haughton, who is leading two-day long workshops in early November.
Following the workshops, the team of 12 young people will take part in the preparation and delivery of Bristol24/7’s Autumn Feast on November 16, with up to 150 guests present for a very special night of food.
During the programme, the young people will also get the chance to meet some of Bristol’s star chefs. The chefs will be on the lookout for new talent, with exciting opportunities and apprenticeships available at some of the city’s best foodie hot spots.
Young people (aged 16-25) who are interested in getting involved in the programme should attend the taster session on October 18. For more information please get in touch with Bristol24/7‘s Partnerships Manager Caragh by emailing caragh@bristol247.com.
