Pizza chef to open first bricks and mortar restaurant
A chef who ran a pizzeria from his back garden during lockdown is opening a restaurant in Broadmead.
Danny Saville started Back Garden Pizzeria after making sourdough pizzas from his home in Redfield for friends and neighbours.
The business took off and Danny transformed his kitchen and outside space into a Neapolitan-style takeaway pizza restaurant – complete with industry-standard fridges, stacked pizza boxes and a dough mixer.

Now, the pizzeria is moving beyond Danny’s home on Glendare Street. Back Garden Pizzeria now has its first bricks and mortar premises inside Art Club Market, an independent department store and event venue on Bond Street.
“My partner agrees that it’s going to be good to have a bit more peace and quiet in the house,” he joked.

Danny, who has been a pizza chef for 12 years, told Bristol24/7: “I’m super excited to open as it’s been a long time in the works.”
“When Art Club came up, it just felt like the right fit for us.”
“I’m also excited to get back that buzz of working in a restaurant that I had working at Prego.”
“It will be great to have a bit more of the restaurant experience and interaction with customers, as well as continuing the takeaways, of course.”

On the menu at the new Back Garden Pizzeria, there will be naturally leavened, slow fermented sourdough pizzas topped with combinations including salsiccia and friarielli to nduja and buffalo, as well as calzones, a selection of sides and wines and lagers.
For dessert, there will be tiramisu, Sicilian cannoli with ricotta and chocolate chips, as well as Nutella, mascarpone calzone pizza.
After he finds his feet, Danny wants to serve lunch offerings too, including salads, arancini and panini using Italian produce.
The restaurant opens on August 12 with a launch party celebrating three years of Back Garden Pizzeria.
The opening night will see music from Josephine Gyasi, as well as aperitifs and plenty of Neapolitan-style sourdough pizzas.
