Polpo closes its restaurant on Whiteladies Road
Success for a restaurant in London is no guarantee of success for the same restaurant in Bristol, with two high profile recent casualties.
The latest casualty is Italian restaurant and bar Polpo, which after 18 months on Whiteladies Road has closed its doors.
Polpo’s closure comes only a few months after Meat Liquor shut up shop on Stokes Croft. It had Londoners queuing down the street to sample its burgers but never got the same level of custom in Bristol.

Opened by Russel Norman, whose BBC Two series Restaurant Man saw him help struggling restaurants, Polpo describes itself as offering “tasty small plates, Prosecco and Spritz in a setting that reflects the gloriously faded elegance of Venice, and the of charms of its backstreet wine bars”.
Over in Cargo 2, it is unknown whether Polpo’s sister restaurant Spuntino is affected by the closure. There are only two Spuntinos in the UK, with the other in the heart of London’s Soho.
