Popular cafe reopens in new home
Banksy’s famous Mild Mild West mural looks down on customers sitting in Emmeline‘s new outdoor terrace.
The popular cafe has reopened in Hamilton House on Stokes Croft only a few hundred yards away from their original premises on Cheltenham Road.
That original home was forced to shut for more than a year after an accident involving a wayward car, while a second Emmeline (named after founder Shona Graham’s niece) is also open at Spike Island art gallery.
is needed now More than ever
Graham describes Emmeline in Hamilton House as “a new chapter”.
“There have been many challenges for us & our hospitality family, but we are trying now to look forward to good things in the future,” she wrote on Instagram.
“It’s impossible to explain the gratitude I feel, but *thank you* to everyone who helped & supported getting my baby business off the ground & then all along the way.. and to each & everyone of you who have scoffed sarnies, salad boxes, bought plants & sipped coffees.. you mean the ?”

All the familiar elements of Emmeline on Cheltenham Road remain as its sign reminds passers-by: lunch, coffee, juice and plants.
But now there is the advantage of much more space than their first home, with enough room for more than 20 people to sit outside overlooked by Banksy’s Molotov-throwing cocktail and a trio of riot police – now with added significance after the recent ‘kill the bill’ protests.
Lunch options include toasted sourdough sarnies for £5.50 with options including a tuna melt, reuben or kimchi and cheddar.
Among the other food options on a recent visit were mushroom, lentil and pearl barley rolls, vegan Cornish pasties and Mexican ice lollies made in nearby Bishopston by Paletas.
