Popular Kingsdown restaurant to close after 15 years

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Oct 23, 2018

A much-loved restaurant and takeaway on St Michael’s Hill has announced that Saturday will be its last day.

Tiffins, which opened in 2003, was run by husband and wife team Nick and Jay Jethwa, and since Nick’s passing last year solely by Jay.

“Due to the stresses and strains of recent past events, and following the death of my husband, and the ongoing challenges of running a business singlehandedly, I have made this very painful decision,” Jay wrote in a note to her customers.

“I have spent months deliberating many other options to avoid closure, but sadly, in the end, I do not have any other options but to close.”

Jay said that she now intends to take some “much-needed rest and time to reflect” before coming up with a more manageable business option.

The note thanked all of her customers and also Bristol Post restaurant critic Mark Taylor and Venue food writer Simon Fry, who wrote in the former magazine that “this place doesn’t have customers, it has friends”.
