Redcliffe restaurant named best in the UK

In a list dominated by big-name London restaurants many with multi-million pound backing, a small family-run restaurant in Bristol has been named the best in the UK.

Casamia at The General in Redcliffe has scooped the top spot in the Harden’s Best 100 UK Restaurant 2019 list, climbing from its previous second position and knocking the Araki in the capital back to third place.

The prestigious annual list was compiled from an annual poll of 8,000 diners who contributed 50,000 reviews.

With tickets to eat in the restaurant sold four months in advance, the Harden’s review applauds “an attention to detail you don’t see in other fine dining restaurants” but notes that “it’s the theatre and introduction by the chefs that really rounds off the experience”.

“This is mind blowing. Thank you from all the team here,” the Casamia team tweeted.

“Honestly feel truly blessed,” tweeted chef-patron Peter Sanchez-Iglesias.

Bristol restaurants bookend the 2019 list, with Casamia number one and Wilks on Chandos Road in Redland ranked as 100th.
