Restaurant explains detailed reasons for ‘substantial’ price increases
In a note pinned to the front door of her business, the owner of a popular Bristol restaurant has told her customers why prices have had to rise.
Esmeralda Martin-Rivera has blamed a triple whammy of Brexit, Covid and unscrupulous delivery platforms for the price hikes.
My Burrito is located on Cathedral Walk on the Harbourside but originally became well-established at its original location on Broad Quay on the centre.

Here is Martin-Rivera’s note in full:
We have had to increase our prices substantially due to the following:
There are very few people willing to work in this industry leading to a substantial increase in wages to find good staff. The previous pool of young, educated Europeans, looking to improve their English has gone.
Offices are empty and our location relies on this trade. Prior to Covid, there were around 4-5000 people working close to our location; now there is rarely 500.
We now have to rely on the delivery platforms; these charge us 30% to 35%. Let that sink in the next time you order on Deliveroo, JustEat or UberEats. If you do order online, please use FoodStuff who give us a better deal and pay their staff properly.
The costs of all our ingredients have skyrocketed largely due to the increased costs associated with haulage and the additional cost of imported salad and vegetables.
We believe we make the best, most authentic burritos in Bristol. This is borne out by our regular clientele of people from the USA and South America, and we want to keep doing this on a viable commercial footing.
If you love our food, please ask for a loyalty card.
