Restaurant to shut after more than 30 years

By Martin Booth  Thursday Feb 27, 2020

The owners of one of Bristol’s oldest restaurants have announced that are closing “with a heavy heart but sheer excitement”.

It is the end of an era for the Kebab House on St Michael’s Hill, which opened in May 1987 and will be closing for the last time at the end of March.

“Those of you that know us well, know that The Kebab House is 24/7 and has been our life for almost 33 years,” wrote owners George and Flora Ioannou on Facebook.

“I’m sitting in a time capsule, disguised as a restaurant,” wrote Bristol24/7 reviewer Jess Connett in 2017 when she visited the Kebab House – photo by Jess Connett

“We have met some amazing people and customers that have become our friends and family! It’s going to be very strange that we can finally put our feet up and enjoy our grandchildren and rest of our family both here in the UK and Cyprus.”

George and Flora added: “For now we would like to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone of you for making our small family run business a dream come true. No words would ever be enough to show our appreciation for your custom.”
