Salt Cafe to close

By Bristol24/7  Friday Feb 9, 2018

A city centre cafe is to close following a long-running dispute with their landlord.

Salt Cafe on St George’s Road near the Jacob’s Wells Road roundabout will close on March 23, but their evening events and private hire bookings will continue into April.

The decision to close comes after a requested 20 per cent rent increase from the building’s landlord after the Salt team had spent £2,000 on improvements to the building.

A variety of events take place downstairs at Salt including live music, film nights and talks

“After nearly three years of hard work, we have managed to build up the business and make it a viable and successful part of the community so we are very sad to see it end like this,” Salt owners Alan Strawbridge and Alice Mahtani said.

“We would like to thank everyone who has been involved in any way in making the cafe a success since we opened in summer 2015.”

Alan and Alice hope to open a new Salt in a different location and are currently on the hunt for suitable premises.

Future events at Salt include Lonely Tourist’s new album launch on Friday, March 2 and a series of Italian film nights.
